Hey guys,

One of my next projects in conjunction with a buy and sell section, I would like to get a Garage going for your cars.

Check this product out:
vBulletin Garage Plus | Drive Thru Online vBulletin Products

Automotive, Truck and Powersports community members have spent many hours and dollars to modify, improve, and perfect their pride and joys. With DTO Garage Plus members not only can share their rides but the site owner can also create a new revenue stream by delivering Garage features as the basis of a paid membership program. DTO Garage Plus is fully compliant with vBSEO, providing both SEO friendly URLs and a sitemap generation add-on to insure that member garages are fully crawlable by the most popular search engines.

Utilizing usergroup permissions the site owner can delegate not only which usergroups can make use of the Garage Plus features but also how many garage entries they may fill. Furthermore, the site owner can customize the terminology of what information is made visible to the Garage users. Site owner's can take advantage of the built-in promotional tools to encourage member use of the Garage Plus feature.

For the users, management of their vBulletin garage is conveniently handled through their UserCP. The intuitive user interface encourages even the most challenged to create a compelling Garage. Images are added via a wizard form either the users own computer or a specified URL. Local storage of uploaded images prevents broken image links and over quota messages. Thumbnails are dynamically created with high-resolution images displayed in a navigable Lytebox. Users can designate whether a garage is visible to the rest of the site members or hidden until they have time to polish the information and give it the debut it deserves. Other users can view garages using interactive pop-up menus embedded in each post or through the Garage owner's profile. Included is a full featured search allowing users to browse Garages by Username and most recently added or modified. An Advanced Search supports highly detailed search criteria to locate garages meeting specific criteria.

  • vBulletin Options-based customization of information collected and presented in garages

There is a $95 dollar investment, which I think is worth it. Especially since I want a way for you guys to show off your car and the mods to your car.

Yay or nay!

I'm sure the license applies to the whole site...

For $95, why not? It seems like a cool idea since I'm sure a good portion of our users will be modifying their cars and car domain is sorta lame now...

It looks very solid. I pricing I do not car about, because on the developers site a lot of people have the free version installed. The $95 does come with support, so if we do have an issue with it we can get it fixed.

After about 20 people vote yes I will go ahead and get the garage up.

I voted No! I have used Automotive Car forums for 10 years. The most popular feature out of all of them is the "Journal/Build" forums. Here I think the "My ST" will do just fine. Garage feature on forums is just to cumbersome to navigate. I'd spend that $95 dollars on a really good SD card for you Go Pro winners!

I agree! I've never been a big fan of the Garage feature of other forums. So I vote no.

Real world comparison

Okay M3forum.net was the last major Forum I was a member of. They have both the garage and build forum. Please take the time to look at both

GARAGE:
BMW M3 Forum.com (E30 M3 | E36 M3 | E46 M3 | E92 M3) - CND Garage

Notice how the post views are small and even the most viewed "garage" is rarely updated.

MEMBER JOURNALS:
Member Journals - BMW M3 Forum.com (E30 M3 | E36 M3 | E46 M3 | E92 M3)

Notice here how view posts are extremely high and updates are daily.

I really think a garage feature on a forum is a waste of money. Nobody wants to filter there everyone's garage. Not everyone will build up their cars to a extreme point. However those that do will be well documented with parts reviews, pictures and other members commenting. In our case "My ST" is the way to go.

I vote no. As others have stated, every auto forum Iv been apart of that had the garage feature never had much activity with it. I really prefer looking through posts and threads as opposed to the garage feature (which people hardly ever update anyway)

So we prefer to use the "My ST" Forum and have our own threads. No problem. Thanks for the feed back!
