Intelligent Key programming

I apparently lost one of my intelligent access keys for my Wife's 2011 Edge. Anyone have any idea how I can get one, and have it programmed without having to pay the $300 the dealer is going to want?

Looks like they are fairly cheap on eBay, but since I only have one I have to pay dealer extortion fees to have them programmed.

No way around it, you need someone with an IVS tool to program it. (That's the Ford Dealer Tool).

If you had two and were trying to program a third you could do it yourself. But since there is only one key left then the dealer will have to use IDS to program it.

Glad you found the cheapest solution!
Glad you found your key. But if anyone is in this situation and needs a new key made, I would check out local hardware stores and locksmiths. In SE Michigan, there is an excellent hardware store called Gilbert's in Saint Clair Shores who can make you a new key for about $75. Way cheaper than the dealer.

Contact Locksmiths in Aventura for any key programing problem.Got locked out of my car.. Fast response. Excellent service.. Got the work done in like 20 seconds...
Thanks for sharing info about your locksmith Mr. Oillemiller. The services you have recommend are also provide by Locksmith Margate. The locksmith company should have ideals service of key-picking, key programming, lock-picking etc.
Your alternate source other than Dealer is local Locksmith. Automotive is probably half if not more of a modern Locksmith's work. They know car keys arguably better than the dealer. But knowledge and expertise is not free, so don't expect locksmith to be automatically doing stuff just for cost.
What most people are interested in and surprised that a Locksmith can do for them is programming their remote key fob. These fobs are almost standard now due to their convenience in letting you lock and unlock your car and/or trunk from afar. Many locksmiths are able to repair a broken remote key fob and program a new one for you. As they have experience working with these remote car keys, they can usually program them in a very short amount of time.
Wow, three posts here from spam bots.
Yeah, new forum ownership and I don't know that there are any MODs around. Related, Folelily is a site sponsor I'm told which makes it ok to post ads for Lexus and NASCAR parts. This detracts from the forum IMO.
Look on ebay as you may find brand new ignition keys. Do a google search for programming instructions, you may be able to do it your self.I did it that way for my Nissan pickup, two remotes for $24 and programming done in 5 minutes by Locksmith.
Wow, are there any MODs around at all anymore? Hear that sound? It's the sound of the Nation forum going downhill. Too bad as it was good in the past.
http://www.stcharleslocksmiths.com/ pride our selves in being the most knowledgable automotive locksmith in the industry. Their goal is to make sure that you are completely taken care of. All their prices are upfront and if they can't program the key to your car then you pay nothing. The difficulty of key fob replacement is not uniform across the board. It depends upon a variety of factors such as the model of your vehicle, who its manufacturer is, and so on. In this regard, locksmith can offer you two alternatives: the first, procuring for you an unbranded key fob, the quick and easy option, the second, replacing the proper factory made keys, which may take longer. But once again, your priority is their aim; if you value time more, go for the former option, but if you have just a little more to spare, they recommend the latter.
I understand your concern about the cost of replacing and programming a new intelligent access key for your wife's 2011 Edge. Here are a few options that you could consider:
  1. Check with a locksmith: A locksmith may be able to create a new intelligent access key for your wife's car and program it for a lower cost than the dealership. It is worth calling around to different locksmiths to get a quote.
  2. Try to program the new key yourself: If you purchase a new intelligent access key, it may be possible to program it yourself. Check the owner's manual for instructions or search online for programming instructions specific to your car model.
  3. Buy a pre-programmed key: You can find pre-programmed intelligent access keys for your wife's car on websites like eBay or Amazon. Be sure to buy from a reputable seller and check the reviews before purchasing.
  4. Check if your insurance covers lost keys: Some car insurance policies include lost key replacement coverage. Check with your insurance provider to see if this is an option for you.
I hope one of these options helps you get a new intelligent access key programmed for your wife's 2011 Edge at a more affordable price. Good luck!
