Funny, I was going to PM you soon to see if you got your oil changed yet. Did the oil life monitor or whatever go off to recommend the oil change? I'm at a little over 5K mi and was thinking of changing it at 6K or so based on oil analyses by others. I may order a sample kit and have my oil tested, not sure yet. I should put that money toward a tint--still bone stock We'll see on the oil change. Great motorcycle weather now, so maybe I can keep the miles off the ST and push the oil change to the winter tire change-up.
Oil life monitor probably wont come on till after 10k miles because apparently i do too much driving under "normal" conditions. But the timing was good as i had to have the light rexall done so i didnt feel like waiting any longer on the oil. And hopefully next month will get the tsb on mounts done. Have you had yours in to have the parts ordered? Or just plan on leaving stock mounts in ?
I do want the mounts changed, but I haven't been to the dealer to discuss. Without parts, it didn't seem worth it to ask yet. I've been driving easy during the commutes and such. I'd like to have them get some swaps under their belts anyway before mine if possible anyhow. Right now I'm thinking of oil change and tire swaps in November, discuss the mounts, and maybe aim for the spring tire swap to replace the mounts. Glad you liked the light recall work--I was thinking of trying to skip it but maybe I'll let them do it if they push it.
Im not sure the dealer would have noticed the light recall had i not brought it to their attention but its not a big deal. I just dont want the cops to have any reason to pull me over ..not that most would even notice the amber lights missing anyway but still...
As to the mounts i will likely be my dealers first change out so im a bit nervous ..but really it cant be too hard.
First of all, after waiting since the first week in July for the back ordered part and then finding out the parts department and service department both dropped the ball once the part was available, finally had the update this past Tuesday. Right out of the parking lot at the dealer noticed the clutch pedal was easier to depress and the gears changed more smoothly under regular powering. Once I was able to get to a place where I could wind it out a bit more immediately noticed less engine movement and lurch between 1-2 and really a whole lot better in all of the other shifts. As others have noticed and reported its easier to put the power down now which shouldn't be surprising. On start up slight vibration now but do notice more vibration at around 75-80mph on highway.
Keep in mind that this is all on the winter tire set up, which for me is very similar to the summer stock set up. I have same size tires and rims but winters are Michelin PA3 on Sport Edition rims compared to the stock Goodyear. It will be interesting to see the difference once I switch back in the spring.
Also, one other observation that really was noticeable when I went back to the winter tires this year - the gas mileage is better on the Michelins compared to the Goodyears. I suspect because the Michelin isn't as "sticky" as the F1. also the car just feels more "free" with less friction drag on the Michelins - something I particularly notice when sharp turning at low speeds, like in a lot. But there is a difference of about 1-2mpg between the two types of tires.
All in all I can't really see a reason to not have this TSB done (most of the dealers are doing now) because the car is better with the upgrade (and now standard on all 2014 STs). My dealer's master tech did the upgrade so no issues with the clutch not being bled properly, but I do have a slight left front rattle that wasn't there before with shifts in the lower gear and I wonder if this is related to something with the air filter box. Everything under the hood I can get to easily feels tight, though, so not sure. I may take it back and have them check. Interestingly, although the MPG averages were reset after the service, the window auto up/down feature didn't have to be reprogrammed. Perhaps the dealer reset it for me? Not sure.
Finally in today for service ...2nd oil change at 18k miles (did first at 9k). Service notice never came on so i could have gone longer but needed winters off anyway. Did have a nail in left front tire that was causing slow leak all winter.
My brakes on right front squealing a bit but nothing wrong apparently. I detailed the car on Sunday then rained the next 2 days so already looks like crap again. Hard to keep the car clean with all this crap weather.
Over 5k miles with the TSB on mounts and clutch and still really impressed with the fix. Still loving this car.
Almost 29k miles now and 4 weeks post wiring harness recall. I have to say the recall leaves me puzzled. I dont notice any difference post fix. But i didnt have any problems before. The car is amazing ...no major complaints still. I definitely think this car is smoother and more fun to drive when not on the stock tires. While ive only had winter alpins besides the stock summers i have to believe that just about any performance tire all season or winter is actually more fun than the stock summers. Gas mpg is better on the winters and ride smoother ...and i have same size rims and tires on my winter set up.
I remain stock but am not disappointed at all ...this car does everything i ask of it and more!
Been quite some time since I did an update but am near 50k miles now and no major issues. The only negative is I have noticed on passenger side rear taillight the paint chip issue appeared (despite the fact that I checked this very carefully at the time of purchase) but I didn't think the light was tight enough to cause it initially but its a minor issue obviously. Also, my front fascia is pretty beat up now with nicks and dings from too much interstate driving.
The car is still just as fun to drive, although I do a lot more highway driving now than anything. I am still rotating the stock tires with Winter tires but the stock tires now have about 30k miles on them so I think in the Spring I will be switching to all seasons finally. No updated pictures because its really dirty from driving in the recent snow.
