So, how many speeding tickets have you gotten? I figure people who like cars and driving typically have plenty of speeding tickets. Personally, I've got 5. I have absolutely no luck. Been pulled over 5 times, got 5 tickets. Although, I have gotten breaks. 3 of them carried no points. First one was for doing 88 in a 55, got knocked down to 70. Second one I had to fight. I was doing 60 in a 55, he said I was doing 74 (enradd is terribly inaccurate). Fought it, but still got a stupid "5 over" ticket. Third was on a back road. I was flying, my radar detector went off, so I slammed on the brakes. Still got me doing 74 in a 55. But, he knocked it down because he got my name wrong on the ticket. After that, doing 51 in a 45. No points, it was another dumb ticket. Went from a 55 to a 45, I was slowing down to the limit, and they got me anyway (and that's why I think cops are dicks). Latest was 78 in a 55. Dick cop said I was doing 70, and i couldn't tell if it said 78 or 70 on the ticket. Pleaded guilty only to get 4 points on my license. By the way, in PA, if you go through a red light, you only get 3 points... How fucked up is that?

So, how have your run-ins with the 5-0 been?

Driving for 14 years. No speeding tickets (lucky). One ticket about 10 years ago for some "failure to stop before limit line" BS, but it was cheap and I was way out of town in the middle of nowhere, not worth fighting so I just payed it. (especially since I was doing 100 mph on this backroad about 2 minutes before I got the ticket...shh! :O:...). At first I thought I was in for way worse!

Have one ticket, I got nailed coasting into a small town that had a nasty drop in speed limit (50 to 20). I wasn't even trying to speed and it was so easily preventable. After that, I bought a radar detector and it has worked great since, especially for small-town cop situations like that where they are just camping in the open with their cruiser-mounted guns on full blast. In fact if I have any regrets on that purchase it was going for a midrange unit instead of a Valentine 1/Escort Redline type unit.

I was pulled over earlier this year by an unmarked trooper who was tried to pace me, but he didn't have much on me and basically just suggested I drive the speed limit.

96 in a 55...Not really my proudest moment. There is no need to do that in a ol' junky Taurus, I had a reason but I wont bother listing it. 2 weeks later I got a 59 in a 55. I was obviously a bit perturbed seeing that people were going much faster in the left lane. I now do the speed limit and I have people riding my ass hard. I get in WAY more altercations now that I drive the speed limit.

I don't remember how many I've had, when I was young, like 17 I came really close to loosing my license because of how many points I had. I've slowed down and calmed down somewhat in the last 15 years. I don't think I have any on my record currently. Last one I didn't get out of that I remember was several years ago. I also drive a lot less now, I use to put 25K+ miles on car in a year. Now I'm down to around 10k a year. I had a radar detector when I was younger, got rid of it and had fewer issues afterwards.

95% of my driving is on highways now a days also and as long as I keep it under 80mph (in NY) they leave me alone. I've never had a state trooper pull me over for doing less than 16 over so 15 over is my usual limit. Local Leo's are different and that varies by area. Where I live 10-15 over is accepted but some local's will pull you over for doing 5 over. Which if I ever got one of those I'd probably laugh since it would be the slowest speeding ticket I've ever gotten.

None. Got pulled over in Vermont on one of those annoying roads with varying speed limits every half mile. The sign was behind a tree and the cop was behind that. I was following the speed of the GTI in front of me too... Luckily the cop got a more important call and let me go (and then ran to his car, hit his lights, and sped off).

Has anyone else realized that there are NO officers patrolling the Michigan highways?

There have been numerous studies done. It's actually far more dangerous to do the limit than to speed.

But, speeding tickets make money, who cares if people get hurt in the process?

I want to read some of those studies, I don't mind if people want to drive the speed limit. Just as long as the don't do it in the passing lane and block traffic. Or in otherwards, as long as they GTFOMW :)

I've had 3 (2 were by plane) in my first three years of driving the last 6 years have been ticket free thanks to my 17 year old old man car I blend in. I have a feeling it may change here shortly.

Had two, both in NJ cause they hate me apparently. One for doing 81 in a 65 but no points since he classified it as a infraction or something. And another at 2am for doing 39 in a 35 since I was in a school zone and it was dangerous...

I drive on average 35k miles a year for work and have for the past 25 years or so. I'm almost always in a hurry but I don't have any tickets on my license and haven't had a wreck in over 15 years.

I do the following:

1. Use a good quality detector.
2. Go slow in town and watch for school zones.
3. Slow down for overpasses, crossovers and construction zones.
4. Watch for entrance ramps on the highways.
5. When your out of town on a highway, use fast driving cars as rabbits. Let them get about 1/4 mile ahead, shadow them, watch for break lights and keep an eye on your mirrors. One reason I love BMW M3s, I've had two nailed ahead of me in the last few months. :)
6. Don't tailgate or weave through traffic. Pass everything but let the left lane open up first then go for it.

Basically, just use your head, try not to piss anyone off and you can make amazingly good time and have a little fun while your at it.

Yeah, was caught over a crest of a hill. Being foolish and stubborn. And, apparently, doing over 100 in a 65. I'm going to be talking with the officer soon to see what my options are and see if he'd be willing to give me a lesser charge.
